Beauty Binge: jane not-so-pure mineral lip balm

I heart lip balms! No, not the regular no-colour kind, but the tinted ones. I like them way better than lipsticks. They feel better on my lips, I like that they give a hint of colour, and of course the moisturizing properties of lip blams always win in my book. So when I saw this jane Be Pure Mineral Lip Balms, I jumped at the chance to try them.

I have these in 2 shades and both looked very vivid in the tube. Pink Garnet looks more like dark fuchsia, and Rose Quartz which is straight up red.

Here's the product details taken off janecosmetics.com :

Unique mineral formula provides deep moisturization and sheer color. Lip balm in a stick offers easy, mess-free application. Available in an array of beautiful shades as well as flavored in clear.

Here's the ingredients list taken from drugstore.com :

Coconut Oil, Beeswax, Euphorbia Cerifera Wax (Candelilla), Microcrystalline Wax, Petrolatum, Flavor, Menthol, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter (Cocoa), Propylparaben, BHT, Magnesium Carbonate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Zinc Stearate, Tourmaline, Amethyst Powder, Citrine, May Contain (+/-): Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Carmine (CI 75470), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090:2), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850:1), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140:1)

How can these be "mineral lip balms" if you have (among others) Parabens, Petrolatum, Propylene Glycol, Urea, and Mineral Oil? I have never known these to "be pure".

These are so waxy and goopy that I felt the product just sits on top of my lips, and I feel like there's this awful layer of goopy wax that does nothing. The colouring is OK, it comes off flat, does nothing pretty to the lips! That oil slick on the lips is what bothers me most! Feels like I slathered margarine on my lips.
Yech!

I'm not a huge fan of the smell and taste either. At first I thought they were vanilla scented - I happened to love vanilla scent but this was a bit too strong. Then looking at the list, it has cocoa in it, so that must be it. I like cocoa too but the scent is unpleasantly strong. A strong cocoa butter scent mixed with wax make me feel queasy a little.

These are $3.99 a piece, and yes, this time, I got what I paid for. I'd much rather spend a little more and get a bunch of NYX Tinted Lipspas. Those are oh-so-nice!!

jane Cosmetics have filed for bankruptcy but to date, I haven't found any information if other larger cosmetics company have come in to save them. Most drugstores have stopped selling jane, so they are a little hard to find these days, but if you like their stuff (their blushers are really nice!), you can find some at drugstore.com. That's where I found these two duds.

OK. Now I need to wipe off this awful waxy cr@p off my lips!
